Some
Things to Remember as you Plan Your Unit
1.
Maximum height for clearance is 13 feet.
2.
Floats should be skirted to conceal undercarriage. Semis and
heavy trucks should have some festive decoration. Your name on the
door is not enough! Make it an attention-getter.
3.
Drivers of motorized units must be properly licensed to operate
on public streets.
4.
Absolutely No Alcohol will be tolerated IN or ON parade units.
Remember, we are subject to state open container laws, even in parades.
If our monitors or police officers find a violation, you will be
cited.
5.
No firearms or fireworks may be discharged.
6.
No treats may be thrown from units. Walkers on BOTH sides of the
streets must stay within 5 FEET OF THE CURB to prevent children
from running out in front of another unit.
7.
Maintain 25 feet of space between units. Available right-of-way
width is also 25 feet. Specialty routines should be timed to keep
this space and to keep the parade moving. IF YOUR UNIT STALLS move
it to the side so other units can get past. Move back into the line
when appropriate.
8.
All units eligible for awards must display a parade identification
card obtained at the staging area at the City Garage on Hwy 54 when
you register between 9:30am and 11:30am.
9.
Units eligible for awards should have a representative at the Chamber booth at Legion Park about 1/2 hour after the last unit passes the Reviewing Stand. No awards will be delivered, so if you cannot be at the booth as the winners are posted, and awards left at the Visitor Information Center from Monday August 11th until the end of August for pick up.
10.
Finally, keep it SAFE, have FUN, and enjoy the publicity you
and your organization will get among the 15,000 -18,000 folks who
line the parade route each year. Be sure your organization's name
is readable by them!
